🍻New Year’s Day🍻 Darley Dale 6 mile circular walk level 2⛅
1st January 2019 @ 11:45 am - 3:30 pm
Let’s start the New Year off with a gentle start.. Not too strenuous for all those sore heads..😪
A 6 mile circular walk from the pretty Village of Darley Dale. It’s a level 2 walk suitable for anyone who can get out of bed after a night of celebrating..😁
We start at Darley Bridge Picnic Site Carpark and walk through Churchtown, Northwood and on Darley Hillside. This walk discovers Darley Dale’s historic and scenic areas.
Churchtown is the oldest part, it’s earliest feature probably being the ancient yew tree in the churchyard of St Helen’s church over 1,000 years old. Following the Riverside path crossing meadows and stiles, through Northwood with views of Over Haddon on the hillside, the weird Sugarloaf hill of Peak Tor appearing like a hedgehog with it’s covering of beech and sycamore, passing the grounds of Stancliffe Hall and a visit to the old Darley Dale Station which was constructed in 1860 in a Gothic style.
This is a walk not to miss and a lovely way to start the New Year..
We then make our way to the Grouse Inn which is a mile from the Carpark so probably best to drive there unless you’re all fit enough to walk an extra mile there and back..😉
I’m hoping to book a table for a New Year’s day group meal so watch out for an update..
Most importantly, there is no public transport on New Year’s day so it would be really helpful if you could offer a lift to someone in your area..
Please post a comment stating where you’re happy to pick up from..
Remember they can’t get to you.. But everyone having a lift will contribute towards the travel costs..
