🌞Level 2⛅11 Mile Circular Walk⛅ Wirksworth Brassington Carsington Pastures🌞
18th August 2019 @ 11:00 am - 4:30 pm
*This walk is accessible by bus
This 11 mile scenic walk starts in Wirksworth Town and takes us through the spectacular Middle Peak Quarry. We join the High Peak Trail for a short while, leaving the trail to follow the path to Carsington. Walking along grassy hillsides with fine views of Carsington Reservoir in the distance, passing the King’s Chair, a rather interesting limestone outcrop which is a large chair shaped from rock! The grassy path steeply descends into the sleepy pretty Village of Carsington.
Then on to the Historic Village of Brassington, going along grassy paths overlooked by strange rock formations of eroded limestone, and rolling hills which have long been exploited by man through mining and quarrying.
After walking through this Historic Village we join a path going through pastures and fields up to Rainster Rocks, a dolomitic limestone outcrop, the remains of a Romano-British period settlement is at the foot of this spectacular rock formation. This is a perfect place for our lunch stop.
We then make our way back through fields and paths to the High Peak Trail, passing Harboro rocks and eventually leaving the trail to join the path back through the Quarry to Wirksworth.
The terrain is hilly and undulating with a steep ascent and descent. It’s suitable for anyone who is used to walking longer distances with hilly terrain. As always, we’ll have breaks and regular catching up points along the way.
There are toilets at the start in Wirksworth.
Good walking boots and a light jacket, weather depending..
Don’t forget a packed lunch and plenty of water to keep hydrated!
Dogs are always welcome 😊 🐾 🐾🐾
